XXVII Trofeo Bortolotti: Atalanta face Athletic Club

Head Coach Maurizio Sarri's Atalanta will play their first match at the New Balance Arena this season in what will also be the team's final dress rehearsal ahead of the first leg of the UEFA Conference League play-offs. Today, Friday 14 August, the Nerazzurri will take on Athletic Club in the XXVII Trofeo Achille e Cesare Bortolotti.

Kick-off is scheduled for 20:45 CEST as Atalanta face one of Spain's most historic clubs in a prestigious international test ahead of the team's first competitive fixture of the season. The side from Bilbao last visited Bergamo in January, when the two teams met during the League Phase of last season's UEFA Champions League.

The match will mark Atalanta's first home fixture of the new campaign, played in front of the Nerazzurri faithful at the New Balance Arena. Above all, it will once again provide the entire Atalanta family with the opportunity to honour the memory of Achille and Cesare Bortolotti, two of the Club's most influential figures, in what will be the 27th edition of the trophy dedicated to the two unforgettable former Presidents. In keeping with tradition, at the end of the match, the 'Mario Bresciani Award' will be presented to the Player of the Match, while the 'Valter Polini Award' will recognise the fairest player in the fixture.

Following last year's edition, which featured Juventus, the Trofeo Bortolotti will once again welcome an international opponent, reaffirming the competition's long-standing international tradition. Prior to last season's meeting with the Bianconeri, the previous six editions featured clubs from abroad, including Eintracht Frankfurt (twice), Hertha Berlin, Lille and Shakhtar Donetsk.
