Official Statement from Lega Serie A
Following Today’s Lega Council Meeting
We hereby publish the following
“At the conclusion of the Lega Calcio Council meeting held today, Wednesday June 11, President Ezio Simonelli, on behalf of Lega Serie A, expresses deep concern and firm dismay at having learned, solely through media outlets, of a pending reform to the system for the audivisual rights, a matter of direct relevance to Serie A clubs. Lega Serie A firmly objects to the introduction of such a legislative proposal in the complete absence of any prior consultation or engagement with the League itself.
Lega Serie A strongly reiterates its clear and resolute opposition to any further increase in external revenue-sharing mechanisms that would otherwise divert critical resources from the development and sustainability of the Serie A, which in return already plays a key role in fostering lower-tier divisions through the allocation of 10% of its audiovisual rights revenue.
Lastly, Lega Serie A underscores its grave concern over the escalating threat of audiovisual piracy, a phenomenon that continues to erode the value of the entire football ecosystem. Estimated annual losses exceed €300 million. Piracy is destroying football".
