Full circle: Carnesecchi is May's Lete POTM!
Crowned by the Nerazzurri fans on the official Atalanta app
A perfect ring composition: just as he had opened the 2025/26 Player Of The Month Lete Hall of Fame, Marco Carnesecchi closes the circle — and the race, at least on the POTM front — by getting his gloves back on the monthly MVP crown for the third time this season, further strengthening his credentials as the leading favourite for June’s Player Of The Season Grand Gala.
Completing the final POTM podium of the 2025/26 campaign alongside Carnesecchi are Davide Zappacosta and Éderson.
Another clean sheet to kick off the month against Genoa, seven saves at San Siro — including a spell of overtime in the closing stages — and a string of decisive interventions against Bologna. In a nutshell, that was Marco Carnesecchi's body of work in May.
While the number 29's heroics against the Rossoblù were not enough to prevent a narrow defeat, his reflex saves to deny Rowe and Castro proved crucial in taking the game into the break goalless, helping keep the Nerazzurri on course and, despite the goal conceded in the 78th minute, ultimately secure Atalanta's ninth European qualification in the last ten seasons.
It was at San Siro, however, with a special mention reserved for the masterclass he delivered in the closing stages, that Carnesecchi reached the peak of his month. After denying Leão and Saelemaekers before half-time, "Saint Marco" returned to centre stage in the final minutes with a stunning one-two against Nkunku: first in the one-on-one, then with an outstretched left hand at the very last moment to lift the ball by those few, yet decisive, centimetres needed to send it crashing onto the crossbar.
A second silver medal of the month for the evergreen Davide Zappacosta: once again donning his customary role as an indefatigable driving force down the flank, the Sora-born wing-back puts the finishing touch on a May that saw him shine both as a goalscorer and a provider. Thanks to the goal that temporarily put Atalanta 2-0 up at San Siro, the Nerazzurri number 77 completed a season “poker” in both categories: goals — moving to within one strike of the personal best he set last season and matching his 2022/23 tally — and assists, with his latest winning pass coming just days later at the Franchi to set up Atalanta’s equaliser.
Staying with the theme of déjà-vu between the GOTM and POTM contests, Éderson also replicated his finish in the goal competition, rounding off the Player Of The Month Lete podium in third place. Named MVP of Atalanta's trip to San Siro for the second consecutive year, the Brazilian was, Carnesecchi's heroics aside, one of the standout performers of the night at the Meazza: it was his goal that uncorked the contest and his assist that paved the way for Raspadori's third.
A complete performance, underlined by his trademark influence in both phases of the game and further validated by his second Serie A Player Of The Match award of the season.
The 2025/26 Player Of The Month Lete race has reached its conclusion, crowning Marco Carnesecchi as its final winner. But the ultimate showdown is still to come: stay tuned for the Player Of The Season.
