Primavera lift the Super Cup after 4-3 win over Fiorentina

Atalanta Primavera lifted the Super Cup for the third time in their history after a thrilling, hard-fought final packed with goals and drama at the Arena Civica “Gianni Brera” in Milan. Coach Bosi’s Nerazzurri claimed the trophy with a 4-3 victory over reigning Italian champions Fiorentina.

The first chance fell to Fiorentina after three minutes, with Pirrò firing wide. Then came a scare in the 13th minute as Bonanno’s effort struck the post. However, it was the Nerazzurri who broke the deadlock on the quarter-hour mark through a stunning Colombo goal: Atalanta’s No. 21 received the ball from Pedretti on the edge of the box before unleashing a powerful and precise strike into the top corner to put Atalanta ahead. The Nerazzurri threatened again in the 17th minute, with Olivieri forcing Fei to turn his effort behind for a corner. From the resulting set piece, Perillo rose highest but headed wide. Fiorentina threatened in the 35th minute through Mazzeo, whose effort was superbly kept out by Sonzogni at the second attempt. In the 42nd minute, Fei raced off his line to deny Pedretti after the Nerazzurri had won the ball back on the edge of the Fiorentina box. In the 47th minute, Perillo had a second goal ruled out for an earlier foul by Ciapini, with the decision upheld following an on-field review requested by the Nerazzurri bench.

Fiorentina found the equaliser early in the second half: Corduneanu first rattled the crossbar before Mazzeo’s effort took a couple of deflections and nestled into the bottom corner for 1-1. The game burst into life, with the Nerazzurri quickly regaining the lead through Perillo, who showed his predatory instincts in the box, reacting quickest to Percassi’s header to turn the ball home and put Atalanta back in front. However, the lead was short-lived as Fiorentina drew level again in the 52nd minute, with Bonanno finding the bottom corner beyond Sonzogni’s reach. In the 70th minute, Fiorentina had a huge chance to take the lead, but Jallow’s penalty came back off the crossbar. Moments later, Jallow threatened again, forcing Sonzogni into a save. The Nerazzurri responded through Ciapini, who forced Fei into a save. Then, in the 78th minute, Atalanta regained the lead: Fugazzola’s corner was met by Cakolli, whose header was parried by Fei, before Forte, attempting to prevent Ciapini from tapping home, turned the ball into his own net to make it 3-2 to the Nerazzurri. And in the 81st minute, Atalanta added a fourth through a spectacular Cakolli free kick that flew into the top corner to make it 4-2. Fiorentina refused to give in and pulled one back in the 90th minute, with Forte finding the top corner with a superb strike.
