Thanks to a late goal from Retegui, Atalanta turned the Serie A Enilive MD37 around to seize the Luigi Ferraris stadium thanks to a 3-2 win at the end of a fiercely contested outing, the season's last, against Genoa. With this win, the Nerazzurri move up to 74 points in the standings.

In the opening minutes, Maldini's angled drive went wide, while Retegui's finish was parried by Leali. After Retegui had another go in the 34th as his shot went wide, 60 odd seconds later the Nerazurri came close to taking the lead with Maldini, who, upon being sent through by Samardžić, struck it just wide of Leali's right post. Then it was Genoa who broke the deadlock on 37 minutes through Pinamonti's header. Although Genoa temporarily doubled their lead with a goal from Bani right before the break, it was then disallowed following a VAR review due to a handball in the build-up.

As soon as the second half kicked off, Atalanta pulled level pronto with Sulemana: back-to-back on the scoresheet for the Ghanian, who latched on Ruggeri's header before unleashing a powerful strike from the edge of the box to beat Leali. The hosts restored their lead in the 58th, once again with Pinamonti. The Nerazzurri fended off Genoa's goal almost immediately, as Maldini picked up his first goal in Nerazzurri colours to level the score once again in the 63rd, placing a right-foot shot perfectly into the corner beyond Leali’s reach. In the dying moments, Zappacosta also had his go, but Leali made the save. And in the 89th came the match-winner, a record-breaking goal too: notching his 25th Serie A goal and thus surpassing Inzaghi's previous Club best, Mateo Retegui turned the match around by capitalising on De Ketelaere's assist following a break.
