Catching up ahead of the League Phase coda

Off to the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium in Barcelona for their League Phase coda, Atalanta will face Blaugrana side FC Barcelona on Wednesday, January 29, at 21:00 CET. The 2024/25 UEFA Champions League MD8 game will also mark a historic first for both Clubs on the International Stage.

Founded in 1899 in Barcelona as a multi-sports Club, Futbol Club Barcelona have been competing in the Spanish top-flight since its first edition. The fourth most successful Club worldwide and second in Europe and Spain for titles won, the Catalunya side's trophy cabinet comprises, among others: 27 Primera División titles, 31 Copa del Rey trophies, 2 Copa de la Liga titles, 14 Supercopas de España, 5 Champions League trophies, 4 UEFA Cup Winners' Cups, 3 UEFA Inter-Cities Fairs Cup*, 5* Super Cups and 3 FIFA World Cup.

Since this season, Barcelona have been under the guidance of German manager Hans-Dieter Flick, a former midfielder who has played for clubs like Köln and Bayern Munich before "hanging up the cleats" and calling the shots on the sidelines of several domestic sides before being appointed at the helm of Bayern Munich. From 2021 to 2023, Flick also had the reins of Die Mannschaft, the German national team.

As for the Culers' latest seasonal outcomes, while the Blaugrana side were held off to a 1-1 away draw at Getafe in their latest La Liga contention, Barça have secured a spot among the UEFA Champions League League Phase Top-8 after claiming a 4-5 comeback win over Benfica at the Da Luz stadium. Standing-wise, while the Blaugranas are currently 3rd in the Spanish standings on 39 points (7 shy of archrivals Real Madrid), they're the current second force of the UCL League Phase charts with 18 points.
