Atalanta, deeply moved, mourn the passing of Gianpietro Marchetti
A product of Atalanta’s youth academy, Marchetti moved to Juventus in 1969 before returning to Bergamo five years later. He spent five seasons back in Nerazzurri colours, earning the captain’s armband and becoming an important figure in the team.
Having begun his career as a midfielder, he eventually established himself in the rearguard, leading Atalanta’s defence and playing a significant role in the club’s promotion to Serie A in the 1976/77 season.
President Antonio Percassi, Co-Chairman Stephen Pagliuca and everyone at Atalanta stand united in grief with Gianpietro Marchetti’s family and loved ones, extending their deepest and most heartfelt condolences at this difficult time.
