Venezia v Atalanta: the stats report
Mario Pašalič is the new all-time top Croatian scorer in the Serie A
With Atalanta imposing themselves 0-2 over Venezia at the Luigi Penzo stadium in the 2024-2025 Serie A Enilive MD8, not only have the Nerazzurri picked up the league threads with the full three points to seal their fourth seasonal win in the Italian top-flight, but they can now also flaunt the best-attacking line in the Serie A thus far.
Breaking the deadlock for Atalanta, midfielder Mario Pašalić gave wings to the Nerazzurri's lead with his historic 50th Serie A goal: by surpassing Ivan Perisic's previous best of 49 nets, our number 8 has now become the new all-time top Croatian scorer in the Italian top-flight. As further stressed by Stats Perform's Opta Facts, SuperMario has become one of the five midfielders (with the others being Barella, Çalhanoğlu, Lazovic and Cristante) to have found his scoring ways in each and every single one of the last 7 Serie A season (namely, since the 2018/19 campaign, when he completed his move to Atalanta), setting an historic first also in the history of the black-and-blue Club.
Moving on to the other Nerazzurro scorer in Venice, Mateo Retegui has now become the temporary king of the 2024-2025 Serie A Enilive topscorers' hill with 8 goals to his name. Thanks to his current run and tally, Mateo has entered the history of the black-and-blue Club having bagged 8 nets in as many league games, with only Karl Aage Hansen flaunting better Serie A figures up to date (namely, 9 in the 1949/50 campaign). The striker born in 1999 is also the second Italian player to have scored (at least) 8 goals in his 8 first games with the same shirt since the onset of the 3-points-per win-era (1994/95) after Luca Toni's best of 9 nets in his first 8 Fiorentina games ( back in the 2005/06 campaign).
As a further personal milestone, the Penzo game marked Berat Djimsiti's 250th Atalanta apperance in all competitions.
Closing off with individual stats provided by the Serie A's official Match report, while Mario Pašalić is the leading figure for balls played (84) and successful passes (58); Ademola Lookman is the on-field benchmark for goal chances (3) and key passes (3). Lastly, Retegui leads the chart for most shots fired during the game (5).
