The official presentation of Eljif Elmas
The midfielder: “I didn’t have to think twice: Atalanta are a top club”
The official presentation of Eljif Elmas took place in the Mino Favini press room at the New Balance Academy.
Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli introduced the new Nerazzurri midfielder and, as usual, also provided an update on the transfer market: “There is one week to go until the window closes and these are the busiest days. I won’t deny that there has been considerable interest in some of our players, but we haven’t received any offers. Should any come in, we will assess them on a case-by-case basis. Right now, our focus is on the team and on helping the group develop under the coach. We place great emphasis on hard work, although the Club is obviously always alert to what may happen in the transfer market, and the deal that brought Elmas to Bergamo is proof of that”.
The Sporting Director then introduced the new signing: “Elmas was an opportunity we wanted to seize straight away because he is in the prime of his career and already has considerable experience, with almost 200 Serie A appearances and nearly 60 in the Champions League and Europa League. He is a player who can give us a lot. He knows Sarri’s style of play very well despite never having worked under him, and he is comfortable in several areas of the pitch, whether in a midfield three, potentially in a two-man midfield, or out wide”.
The floor then passed to Eljif Elmas: “First of all, I would like to thank Luca Percassi and the Sporting Director for the trust they have shown in me. I didn’t have to think twice when this opportunity came up because Atalanta are a top club and have proved it over the years, including by winning the Europa League. I hope to do well and repay the Club’s faith in me. I have played in many different roles throughout my career, so I can operate in several positions and adapt wherever needed. The important thing is to always be ready and give everything for the team”.
The Macedonian midfielder then shared his thoughts on the Nerazzurri supporters: “I know the fans here in Bergamo are incredibly passionate. I had already realised that when I faced Atalanta in the past, and I got further confirmation of it at the match two days ago: the fans sing and support the team from the first minute to the last, and they are an extra weapon for us”.
