Scamacca strikes, but Hellas Verona take the three points
Hosts prevail 3-1 at the Bentegodi
Hellas Verona took all three points in the 2025/26 Serie A Enilive MD14, imposing themselves 3-1 over Atalanta at the Bentegodi. Scamacca netted from the spot for the Nerazzurri.
Off to a scrappy start, the Nerazzurri's first chance came in the 17th minute: Zappacosta's free-kick found Hien's glancing header, forcing Montipò into a save and, on the rebound, De Ketelaere's effort was blocked by a defender who shepherded it out for a corner. The Nerazzurri threatened again in the 26th, but De Ketelaere’s shot was crucially deflected behind for another corner. The home side struck first in the 29th minute through Belghali: a sharp turn and a powerful left-footed drive under the crossbar. Verona then doubled their lead in the 37th, when Giovane's long-range effort picked up a deflection, wrong-footing Carnesecchi before finding the back of the net.
The second half kicked off with a chance for De Ketelaere in the 49th, but Montipò got down to make a crucial block before the ball could cross the line. The Nerazzurri kept pushing, searching for a goal to get back into the game. In the 71st minute, Atalanta appealed for a handball on Samardžić’s run, but on the counter, Hellas Verona made it 3-0 through Bernede. Atalanta hit back moments later, with Scamacca smashing a shot onto the crossbar. After a VAR check following an On-Field Review, a handball was spotted on the Nerazzurri striker, and a penalty was awarded. Scamacca stepped up and calmly slotted it home to make it 3-1, which proved to be the final score.
