Salernitana 1-0 Atalanta U23s
Setback for the Nerazzurri
Atalanta U23s came off worse in the rescheduled Matchday 3 fixture as hosts Salernitana claimed a 1-0 victory at the Arechi Stadium.
The first two chances of the game fell to the Maroon side: just 4 minutes in, Inglese neared the breakthrough with a curling effort that whistled past the far post before Villa's ranged attempt got tipped behind for a corner by Vismara three minutes later.
At the other end, the U23s responded with a huge chance on 10 minutes: Papadopoulos pulled the trigger, unleashing a powerful left-footer from outside the box, forcing a save, with Vavassori pouncing on the rebound and smashing it off the post. In the follow-up, Misitano had his effort blocked by Donnarumma. At the 35th minute, Misitano was once again in the spotlight: as Pounga set him up with a long ball from defense, the striker tried a delicate lob over the keeper, but it just went wide.
In the second half, Salernitana took the lead in the 60th minute with a left-footed volley from Ferraris. Atalanta came close to equalising in the 69th: Lonardo held up the ball and then laid it off for Vavassori, whose header was saved by the opposing keeper. On the ensuing play, Pounga delivered a pinpoint cross into the box, where Comi nodded the ball just wide of the target. In the 76th minute, Vismara pulled off a brilliant save to deny Inglese from close range. Just a minute later, following a corner, Lonardo flicked the ball on with his heel, and Guerini was inches away from turning it into the net. At the 89th minute, Vismara prevented a second goal with another great save.
