Primavera: discovering Pietro Comi

Primavera: discovering Pietro Comi

The defender, who has been with Atalanta for 10 years, scored the winner against Lazio

"Not being scoring a part of my repertoire, I was quite gobsmacked myself. As such, I did the first thing crossing my mind on the spur of the moment: I ran to the bench to hug my teammates because I wanted to share my joy with the whole team".

The words of Pietro Comi, who turned 18 last June, transpire all the genuine naivety of someone who is out of their depths when it comes to attacking a goal rather than shielding it. Last Saturday, Pietro scored the match-winner against Lazio, bringing home the Primavera's first three points of the season. "We put out a spotless performance, even more remarkable considering the toughness of the match. There is still much to do, nonetheless being off to a good start was a great way to set the tone. Come Friday, will be in for another tough match against Sampdoria ".

"My last goal? It dates to October 2022, back then I was still playing for the U18s and I scored it against Spal. It was my one and only goal of the season. All in all, I'm a defender born and bred: despite a short stint as a midfielder, last year I got back behind the attacking lines". Before moving on to Saturday's winning strike, Pietro recalls his last goal with a smile: "After I collected the ball at the edge of the box, since Lazio's defender covered the away post, I went for the near one. Honestly, even though I actually aimed at it, I did not expect it to pan out as it did. The day after, everybody was pulling my leg with how I shot and nicknamed me "bomber". I feel happy and proud it was a goal of great relevance".

"I dedicate this goal to my family and parents, who always made many sacrifices to bring me to training and matches". Native of Treviglio, but grown up in Gessate, Pietro has been donning the black-and-blue colours since 2014. "Despite entering my tenth season, I remember my first training in Verdellino vividly: since I felt at home from the get-go, Atalanta was the best place to go. In my childhood years, I also donned the captain armband, something that happened last year in the U18s, and it filled my heart with pride".

"It is my father Roberto who passed his great passion for football down to me. I'm the third of five brothers, all male, and we all play football. I took from my mother Anna Maria her passion for the piano. I took my first lesson during my last year at kindergartner: I really fancy playing it - usually classical music with a penchant for Chopin - to take my mind off studying or in my spare time".

Pietro stands also out as one of the most notable examples of the proper balance between his porting and academic careers: so much so that he received two consecutive "Premio Brembo" (in 2018 and 2019) for outstanding merits off the pitch. "Now I'm currently attending the fifth year of the scientific high school in Melzo. My favorite subjects? Maths and physics, with a penchant for the latter. Although I already took and passed the placement test for engineering at the Polytechnic University,  it's still soon to take any firm decision".
