Poster Young Boys: our focus on the UCL MD5
On-the-road Tuesday for our fifth League Phase game
Doing the rounds for the second time in November for their 2024/25 UCL League Phase "hump (match)day", the Nerazzurri will play Swiss side BSC Young Boys on Tuesday, November 26, at 21:00 CET at the Stadion Wankdorf in Bern. After two consecutive UCL firsts, Atalanta will cross swords with a "familiar face" this time, having the two teams traded blows on two previous occasions in the 2021-2022 Group Stage, when Gasperini's men won 1-0 at home and drew 3-3 away in the reverse game.
Flaunting a century-long history, Berner Sport Club Young Boys were founded in 1898 in Bern, the capital of Switzerland. Current Super League champions having lifted their 17th domestic title thanks to the 64 points claimed last season, the Helvetic side's cabinet also comprises: 8 Swiss Cup, one Supercup and one League Cup. Moving on to International honours, YB have lifted one Coppa delle Alpi and, despite it not being a trophy per se, have reached the semi-finals of the 1958-1959 European Champion Clubs' Cup semi-finals.
The Helvetic outfit is coached by Swiss coachJoël Magnin, a longtime youth coach for the Bern Club, who made his homecoming upon taking up caretaking and assisting roles at Neuchâtel Xamax and Zürich respectively.
As for Young Boys' seasonal domestic and continental breakdowns thus far, while the Black-and-Yellows are 9th in the Super League's standings on 17 points after 15 games (with the latest outcome being a 1-1 draw away at FC Luzern), they are on the lookout for the first points in the UCL.
