Our monthly schedule, March
A “Total Football” schedule before the international break
True to its reputation, March promises to be a month of shifting shapes for Atalanta, with tempo and stages changing every few days. Metamorphosis will be one of the month’s defining traits. The second? Games. Plenty of them. Back-to-back. Different in weight and backdrop, but all breathtaking. Pack, travel, unpack, go again. League, Coppa Italia, Champions League — three tracks running side by side over a matter of weeks. Then a brief lull, the international break, before the final long sprint to the finish line.
The diary opens with Chapter One on the road, in Reggio Emilia. Matchday 27 of the Serie A sees the Nerazzurri in action on Sunday the 1st at 15:00 CET away to Sassuolo. Lights on at the Mapei Stadium.
Sticking with the early-March storyline, Raffaele Palladino’s men will be packing their bags again for the second of three away tests: a trip to the Stadio Olimpico for the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final against Lazio. The opening instalment of the Road to the Final kicks off on Wednesday the 4th at 21:00 CET.
Following two straight away days, the Nerazzurri return home to round off the first week of March with their first fixture of the month on home turf: Atalanta-Udinese has been scheduled for Saturday 7 March, with kick-off at 18:00 CET at the New Balance Arena.
Rounding out the competitive mosaic of March is the return of the Champions League: waiting for the Nerazzurri will be yet another European first this season, the showdown with Bayern Munich scheduled for Tuesday 10 at 21:00 CET.
After back-to-back home fixtures, the stage then shifts to “La Scala del Calcio”, the iconic Stadio Giuseppe Meazza, where Atalanta will face Inter on their own turf. The heavyweight clash dressed entirely in Nerazzurri colours is to be played on Saturday 14 March with kick-off at 15:00 CET.
To cap off a red-hot week — a matryoshka of circled fixtures packed into an already crowded calendar — Atalanta will then touch down in Bavaria. On Wednesday 18 the second leg of the Round of 16 will take centre stage, as the Nerazzurri head to the Weltstadt mit Herz for the decisive return against Der FCB kicking off at 21:00 CET.
Atalanta will then bring the curtain down on their March marathon by hosting Hellas Verona on Sunday 22 March. The kick-off at the New Balance Arena is set for 15:00 CET.
After the meeting with the Scaligeri, the final international break of the season offers a chance to catch breath and recharge before the last push: from April to May it will be a relentless run-in, no pauses, full throttle for the Nerazzurri.
