Inter edge it at the New Balance Arena
Second-half goal by Martinez proved decisive
The 2025/26 Serie A Enilive MD17 season saw the visitors eak out the win at the New Balance Arena as the game was settled by a second-half goal from Lautaro Martínez.
An all-out skirmish from the onset, in the opening minutes Kolašinac's selflessness proved itself decisive to stave off Akanji's effort. In the following onslaughts, Atalanta's rearguard stood firm, with Carnesecchi stepping up to deny Thuram (23rd minute) and Lautaro (27th). The visitors then opted for ranged efforts, with Luis Henrique, Cahlanoglu and Barella all posing threats, but finishing wide of the target. Although Inter found the breakthrough in the 35th with Thuram, the goal was later denied following VAR review due to an offside in the build-up from Martinez. Atalanta closed out the first half on the front foot, as Zalewski burst down the left and cut the ball back, but neither Scamacca nor Pašalić could get the final touch on 41 minutes.
Ten minutes into the second half, Atalanta thought they had taken the lead when De Ketelaere found the net on 55 minutes, but the goal was ruled out as Zalewski was flagged offside when he started the move. A minute later, Carnesecchi came to the rescue, diving to deny Luis Henrique in a one-on-one situation, before Barella dragged the rebound wide. The visitors eventually broke the deadlock on 65 minutes through Lautaro Martínez. Atalanta pushed for an equaliser and went agonisingly close late on: in the 87th minute, De Ketelaere slipped Samardžić through on goal, but the Serbian, stretching at full pace, couldn’t keep his left-footed effort on target. Despite De Ketelaere leading the charge in the closing minutes, the away defence held its ground.
