Retegui hits 25 in Serie A etching his name into Atalanta’s history

By pulling off a 3-2 comeback win over Genoa on MD37, Atalanta seized the Luigi Ferraris and pulled off their 13th away win of the 2024/25 Serie A Enilive season. Considering all competitions this term, Gasperini's men have hit the back of the net 104 times, a tally only bettered in three previous campaigns under the Grugliasco-born manager: 2019/20 (116), 2020/21 (111) and 2023/24 (106).

After Ibrahim Sulemana bagged his second seasonal goal to pull the game level, Daniel Maldini grabbed his first Serie A goal in Nerazzurri colours.

Then came the match-winner, a record-breaking one nonetheless as Mateo Retegui struck his 25th Serie A seasonal mark, hence smashing the Club's record for most goals in a single domestic campaign. As highlighted, Atalanta's number 32 has flaunted his killer instict with equal prowess on both feet (10 with his right and 10 with his left) and has now established himself as only the second player in the last 20 Serie A seasons after Alessandro Del Piero in 2007/08 to hit double-digit figures on both sides in a single league campaign.

As further standout milestones from the Genoa game, while Marten de Roon chalked up his 200th Atalanta win in all competitions, Mario Pašalić made his 300th appearance across Europe's Big-5 leagues.

Closing off with the usual individual stats provided by the Serie A's Official Match Report, while Mateo Retegui hogged the limelight for most attempts on goal (5) and De Roon was the leading figure for ball touches (68), Lazar Samardžić was the on-field specimen for key passes (5) and successful passes in the attacking third (15).
