Bayern München also come out on top in the second leg
Hosts prevail in Munich
Bayern Munich won the second leg of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League round of 16 tie to secure a place in the quarter-finals. The clash at the Fußball Arena München ended 4–1 to the hosts, with Lazar Samardžić on target for Atalanta.
The first chance fell to Bayern, with Luis Díaz firing over from a good position on 9 minutes, while Sportiello was alert to deny Guerreiro (12’) and Pavlović (15’). The breakthrough came in the 21st minute, when the referee awarded a penalty following a VAR review for a Scalvini handball. Sportiello initially saved Kane’s effort, but the spot-kick was retaken due to the goalkeeper being off his line, and the striker made no mistake at the second attempt to put the hosts ahead on 25 minutes. Atalanta had a big chance to level just before the break: Scalvini nodded back for Pašalić, whose close-range effort was well parried behind by Urbig.
Bayern continued to press after the restart, with Guerreiro firing wide on 52 minutes before Kane doubled the lead two minutes later with a composed finish into the far corner. The hosts quickly added a third through Karl on 56 minutes, his precise left-foot strike leaving Sportiello with no chance. De Roon, meanwhile, drew level with Bellini at the top of Atalanta’s all-time appearance list, reaching 435 caps for the Nerazzurri. Urbig then did well to deny Kamaldeen on the hour mark, before Pašalić fired straight at the goalkeeper on 69 minutes. Bayern added a fourth shortly after, as Luis Díaz applied a delicate finish to beat Sportiello. Atalanta grabbed a late consolation in the 85th minute, with Samardžić heading home at the back post after Pašalić’s flick-on from a Raspadori corner, sealing the final 4–1 scoreline.
