And after the social media announcement and the commemorative shirt handed to him by President Antonio Percassi in front of the Bergamo faithful, good things really do come in threes — with yet another tribute, this time a full-on Wallpaper-style homage to Berat Djimsiti. At the Stade Vélodrome in Marseille, he marked his 300th appearance in black and blue with a performance worthy of the milestone.
Let’s kick things off with the very first of his 300 appearances in black and blue: May 2nd, 2016, at the “San Paolo” in Naples, when he wore the number 55 on his back. A number that, after his two spells down south with Avellino and Benevento, would make way for that nëntëmbëdhjetë (19) the number that’s since been his calling card every time he’s made the starting eleven.
Jumping ahead in no particular order, and by one of football’s little twists of fate, it was again against Napoli that Berat not only celebrated his 100th appearance for Atalanta, but also wore the captain’s armband for the first time, in the 2023 season. That same year, he’d have the honor of leading the team out on four more occasions, including one of the most unforgettable nights in Atalanta’s history: May 22nd. On that magical evening - standing in for the injured Marten de Roon - Berat took the helm and steered the ship right up to the 91st minute, when Toloi came on, only for Berat to reclaim the armband at the most eagerly awaited moment of all: the lifting of the Europa League Trophy under the Irish sky.
On the road to Marseille, he scored some memorable goals in black and blue. The very first — against Inter — in that unforgettable 4-1 win in Bergamo. Then came his mark on the ticket to the 2021 Coppa Italia final. After that, the strike that turned his 200th appearance for the Orobici into pure gold — the goal against Sturm Graz, which sealed qualification for the Europa League Round of 16 with a game to spare. And last but not least, his first-ever Champions League goal, scored under the lights of the Veltins-Arena in Gelsenkirchen.
