Atalanta Get It Done in the Serie A: 2-0 win over Fiorentina
Kossounou-Lookman duo sparks Nerazzurri at New Balance Arena
First Kossounou, then Lookman. With a goal in each half, the Nerazzurri vanquished Fiorentina in the 2025/26 Serie A Enilive MD13. At the New Balance Arena in Bergamo, Palladino’s side secured a 2-0 victory, marking their second consecutive win following Wednesday’s UEFA Champions League triumph in Frankfurt.
The first chance of the game fell to the visitors on 4 minutes, going close to the breakthrough twice in mere seconds was it not for a crucial Carnesecchi, who first denied Kean's cross-shot right before doubling down on Piccoli's poke on the rebound. The Nerazzurri retorted quickly, first with Scamacca, whose 12th minute effort went straight at the keeper, before De Ketelaere had another go 60 seconds later from range, drawing a save out of De Gea. On 27 minutes Lookman rewarded Zappacosta's run, only for the wingback to be closed down by De Gea. In the 32nd, De Ketelaere went solo but was walled off by the opposing defence. After Carnesecchi stepped up to deny Piccoli in the 36th, De Ketelaere kept up his "feud" with De Gea, who denied the Belgian with a diving save. The game broke open in the 41st, when Kossounou, on De Ketelaere's setup, cleaved his very first goal as a Nerazzurro in the far top corner to vanquish De Gea. Right before the break, Atalanta nearly made it 2-0 with Lookman, whose shot clipped the post past De Gea.
The second half opened with a slick link-up between Scamacca and De Ketelaere, but the opposing keeper denied Atalanta's no.17 once again. The goal was only postponed to the 51st, though, when the Nerazzurri struck in the aftermath of a corner kick: after De Ketelaere was denied by De Gea, Lookman pounced on the rebound and slmmed it under the roof of the net to make Atalanta's second of the night. The Nerazzurri went close to a third two minutes later as Lookman whipped in a pinpoint cross for de Roon’s header, only to be denied by De Gea’s body. On 65 minutes, Scamacca "swapped places" with Carnesecchi, performing a crucial (almost) goal-line clearance to deny Kean's header. The visitors came close to pulling one back in the 76th minute when Kean’s glancing header rattled the post. In the end, the Nerazzurri sealed a 2-0 win at the New Balance Arena.
