Atalanta BC celebrating the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women
Taking part in the initiatives commemorating the event, the Under-12s Girls' and Men's sides delved into the topic of Sexism
The International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women was established by the United Nations General Assembly on the designated date of November 25, on the grounds of calling upon governments, international organizations and NGOs alike to implement, on this particular date, initiatives aimed at raising the public awareness on the plight of discrimination against women.
As part of the worldwide initiatives held to commemorate such a pivotal day, the full rosters of the U12s Girls' and Men's sides took part in a joint meeting arranged by the psycho-educational staff of Atalanta Academy for a sharing on the topics of gender bias and sexism.
The screening of the UEFA “Outraged” video footage brought to the fore several topical overarching themes such as gender-based inequality and stereotypes: after voicing views and ideas, the black-and-blue "round table" reached a shared consensus on the topic and what its social costs and consequence entail.
Due to its particular significance, the gathering raised awareness among the black-and-blue youngsters while creating a humus layer to create shared experiences and exchange views.
In keeping with the "sharing" leitmotiv, the group then took it to the field for a joint practice: with leisure, fondness for football and togetherness as centrefolds, the initiative harnessed the power of sports not just to break down barriers and prejudices but foremost to foster new ways of living and thinking in an effort to blossom a new cultural and societal framework free from any form of discrimination.
