Atalanta appoint Maurizio Sarri as Head Coach: welcome, "Mister"!
More than 800 professional matches in the dugout, with a UEFA Europa League and a Serie A title in his trophy cabinet
Atalanta BC are pleased to announce the appointment of Maurizio Sarri as Head Coach of the First Team. Throughout his distinguished managerial career, Sarri has taken charge of more than 800 professional matches, with a trophy cabinet highlighted by a UEFA Europa League title and a Serie A championship.
Last season, he led Lazio to the Coppa Italia final, having previously guided the Biancocelesti to a second-place finish in Serie A in 2022/23 and to the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 in 2023/24, the second-best result in the Roman club's history in Europe's premier club competition.
Sixty-seven years old, Sarri was born in Naples but grew up in Tuscany, with a brief period of his childhood also spent in the Bergamo area.
From the amateur leagues of the Arezzo province to the summit of European football with Chelsea and the Scudetto with Juventus, he built his remarkable managerial career starting from the lower divisions and working his way up through every level of Italian football. A rise characterised by a clear footballing philosophy and a strong identity consistently instilled in his teams.
From Sansovino, whom he guided from Eccellenza to Serie C2 in just three years, to Empoli, whom he brought back to Serie A in 2014 before steering them to an impressive survival campaign, Sarri earned his move to Napoli in the summer of 2015.
At the Neapolitan club, where he worked in close synergy with Sporting Director Cristiano Giuntoli, he set Napoli's points record in Serie A for three consecutive seasons, improving it year after year and eventually reaching 91 points in 2017/18, a club record that still stands today. During his time in Naples, he also secured Champions League qualification in every season, recording two second-place finishes and one third-place finish.
The 2018/19 season brought international recognition as Sarri guided Chelsea to UEFA Europa League glory, defeating Arsenal in an all-English final.
Success followed in Italy the following season, when he became Serie A champion with Juventus.
Among the prestigious individual honours he has collected throughout his career are the Panchina d'Oro for the 2015/16 season and the Panchina d'Argento for the 2013/14 campaign.
The Percassi family, the Pagliuca family and everyone at Atalanta BC extend a warm welcome to Maurizio Sarri and his staff to the Nerazzurri family.
