2025/26 UCL opposition focus: PSG
We face the French outfit in the opening game of the League Phase
The opening match of the 2025/26 UEFA Champions League will see Atalanta face the reigning champions Paris Saint-Germain. Our UCL opener is scheduled for Wednesday 17 September at the Parc des Princes Stadium in Paris, with kick-off at 21:00 CEST.
Paris Saint-Germain, commonly known as PSG, is a French football club founded in 1970 in Paris, reigning Ligue 1 champion, as well as the French club with the most national and international titles. In their trophy cabinet, the Parisian club boasts 13 Ligue 1 titles, 16 French Cups, 13 French Super Cups, 1 Cup Winners’ Cup and 1 UEFA Super Cup. Furthermore, last season Les Parisiens became the only French team to achieve the treble by winning the French league, the French Cup, and for the first time in their history, the prestigious UEFA Champions League. PSG also took part in the inaugural FIFA Club World Cup this summer, picking up runner-up honours in the competition.
PSG are currently coached by Luis Enrique, who is now in his third season with the French club.
The Parisian team sits on full points after having made a clean sweep so far in Ligue 1 on the grounds of victories over: Nantes (1–0 away), Toulouse (6–3 away) Angers (1–0 home) and most recently Lens (2–0).
This will be the second official meeting between Atalanta and Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League, following the quarter-final match won by PSG (2–1) in the 2019/20 season.
