6 new designs dedicated to Atalanta's 117th birthday
117 years young and still going strong! As October 17 marks a very special (if not the most special of all) at Atalanta, what better way to celebrate it if not by a tailor-made Wallpaper Wednesday (converted into Wallpaper Birthday for the occasion) issue to celebrate our 117th anniversary in style; or rather as any special occasion requires...
And what better celebration of the black-and-blue history than to lionize our crest's metamorphoses throughout history, the symbol that more than anything else not only brings us together but foremost that we also brandish proudly since 1907?
True to our name always "in our own way", we've truly made strides sice that October 17 1907, back when we were simply named "Atalanta" and the black stripes were paired by a white hue. Until 1920, when our merger with Bergamasca brought the blue into the occasion in lieu of the white...
Then came 1963, a year marked not just by the first "restyling", as the Atalanta nymph was made her first appearance in a running pose, with hair flowing; but foremost by our fvery first trophy as Domenghini hit a hat-trick in the San Siro final to bring the Coppa Italia to Bergamo for the first time on that magical night that was the 2nd of June '63!
The iconoclast spirit of the 70s and 80s brewed also in Bergamo, as our third logo proudly shows: be it "cult" or "instant classic", words fall short when it comes to describing the badge donned by some of Atalanta's stalwart legends. From Glenn Strömberg and Claudio Caniggia all the way to Cantarutti, Prandelli and Evair, the black-and-blue shirt flaunted the profile of Atalanta's face, all bordered in gold!
Last but not least, the 90s brought with them a new logo, which has been with us for over thirty years and we have showcased on the biggest European stages: from Valencia to Liverpool, from Manchester to Madrid, passing by Lisbon, Marseille and, foremost, the unforgettable night of Dublin in that unforgettable May 22, when another hat-trick put the golden brooch on our most striking feat and tinged the sky above the Aviva Stadium black-and-blue!
