10-man Nerazzurri sew up a comeback win in Verona

The Serie C NOW Group A MD7 saw Atalanta Under-23s walk off the Gavagnin-Nocini stadium with the full three points after sewing up a breathtaking 1-2 win, made even more oustanding considering that coach Modesto's lads were one-man-down for the whole second half. Now on a roll, the Nerazzurri have claimed their secon consecutive triumph after imposing themselves 5-1 at home over Pergolettese last Wednesday.

While Vavassori had the first chance of the game for the Nerazzurri on 9 minutes, his shot turned out too feeble in the end. In the 12th minute Dajcar proved himself well alert to deflect Zarpellon's tricky shot out for a corner. The Verona side take the lead on 21 minutes with De Marchi, who only had to tap the ball in after bursting into the box. Nonetheless, the Nerazzurri shrugged off the setback in a wink, levelling the game in the 24th through Navarro, who gathered Vlahović's lay-off and finished it with a first-touch curler to bridge the gap with his second goal of the season. Although no holds were barred in the closing minutues, neither team managed to break the stalemate. On 44 minutes, the referee waved Comi the red card due to his foul on De Marchi.

On their toes for being down one man, coach Modesto's lads opted for a more conservative approach throughout the second half with the main goal of slowing down the game's pace and sapping the opponents' offensives. On 75 minutes Virtus had a clear chance to turn the game around with De Marchi, who eventually hit the crossbar in the mano-a-mano against Dajcar. Hopeful that the new lease of life brought by their subs would prevail in the end, Atalanta confided in their second-half changes, such as Cassa, who on 76 minutes opened up the space to serve Vlahović, whose shot ended up off target by an inch. 60 seconds after, Dajar flew to deny Zapellon with an absolute stunner of a goalkeeping display and then, in the 83rd, it fell to golden sub Alessio to score the winning goal with a slide finish on Panada's cross.
