UEFA Youth League: PSG claim victory in the opening match

Mencaraglia on the scoresheet for the Nerazzurri

At the PSG Campus in Poissy, the French side kicked off their 2025/26 UEFA Youth League campaign with a 5-1 victory over Atalanta.

PSG and Atalanta got off to a good start to the match, with both teams immediately playing at high intensity. In attendance at the match were Luca and Stefano Percassi, Stephen Pagliuca, Tony D’Amico, Andrea Fabris, as well as Roberto Samaden and Giancarlo Finardi representing the youth sector. The first goal opportunity came for the French side in the 18th minute, when Nsoki found himself one-on-one with Sonzogni, but the goalkeeper made a great save to deny the home team the lead. Just two minutes later, coach Bosi’s team struck first: after a quick exchange of passes on the right wing, Bono delivered a delightful cross into the box for Mencaraglia, who headed the ball inside the near post.

Shortly after, the Nerazzurri went forward again through Bono, but his shot from the edge of the box was deflected for a corner by the PSG defense. After a spell of possession around Atalanta’s box, PSG equalised in the 36th minute thanks to Chtaï-Telamio’s left-footed strike into the far post. The French side then took the lead towards the end of the first half through Ndjantou, who unleashed a powerful long-range effort.

In the second half, PSG stretched their lead from the penalty spot as Ndjantou calmly converted. Sonzogni briefly kept Atalanta’s hopes alive with another fine save to deny Fanne Drame from close range, but in the 57th minute the Parisian number 9 struck again, curling a superb right-footed effort into the far corner for 4-1. With 12 minutes left, substitute Mounguengue put the result beyond doubt, sealing a 5-1 win for the French side.
