UEFA Youth League MD3, Atalanta 2-1 Celtic
Last minute clincher to extend our winning UYL streak
Adding one more step to their 2024-2025 UEFA Youth League streak, coach Bosi's lads claimed their third consecutive League Phase triumph as the Nerazzurri came back from behind to sew up a 2-1 comeback win over Celtic thanks to Camara and Bonsignori Goggi's stoppage time tie-breaker.
Despite the visitors had the first chance of the game, Pardel was well alert and deflected Cummings' attempt. The Nerazzurri then had their go with a darting Bonanomi, who tried his best to sneak through the Scottish opponents but saw his efforts denied time and again. Called again into action, Pardel defused Bonnar's crossed shot in the 33rd. Coach Bosi's Nerazzurri had a huge chance to break the deadlock on 42 minutes: being awarded a penalty as Michieletto got tackled in the box by Donovan, Rice eventually defused Baldo's spot-kick shot.
The second half opened up with a sudden scare for the hosts as Turley's cross hissed its way through the box with no Scottish player managing to find the winning deflection. Back at it once again, Turley broke the deadlock on 52 minutes by hammering his cross-shot under the roof of the net. The hosts neared the equalizer in the 67th: Bonanomi ignited Mungari who, upon finding the right opponents, shot twice on target and twice saw his attempts denied, first by the opposing keeper and then though a goal-line save from the opposing defence. Nonetheless the Nerazzurri leveled 60 seconds later through Camara, who nodded Tavanti's cross in the back of the net. Two minutes later Rice sprung into action once again to deny the black-and-blue comeback from a corner-kick situation. On 73 minutes, Camara spread it to Riccio, who finished just wide to the side. Despite the visitors having a chance to break the stalemate as Kyle retaliated for Celtic on 80 minutes, the green-and-white player saw his chance blocked with Pardel in the mano-a-mano. The clincher came a heartbeat before the final whistle through Bonsignori Goggi, who finalised Idele's cross with a far-post strike to put the golden brooch on the black-and-blue comeback.
While Rice denied the hosts their third of the game by deflecting Mencaraglia's ranged shot from the edge of the box out, the Nerazzurri walked off the Caravaggio stadium 2-1 winners nonetheless to extend their perfect record of 9 points after 3 games.
