U23s, Francesco Modesto: "We faced a seasoned opponent"
The coach's post-match de-briefing
Francesco Modesto commented on the Vicenza setback as follows: "Compared to our previous games, the lads were a bit jittery and under the weather. Which is also par for the course, considering their age and the matches played thus far. With many of our players contending their rookie season, they'll have to also put these games down to experience. Luck was not on our side either, as our opponents took the lead and doubled it also thanks to untoward yet key deflections. On our behalf, we could have done better in the first half: we should have capitalized on them dialling things down after 20 minutes."
“We played a high-paced match against a seasoned opponent” – coach Modesto went on – “Costa's elbow on De Nipoti was a bad foul just like they didn't award us a penalty last season. Regardless, referees are not infallible and we have to accept it. Nonetheless, some episodes can weigh heavily on the game: Obrić and Zamparo went head-to-head time and again during the game, with our defender bearing the brunt in the end as he was waved an unjust yellow card. Despite its young age and its greenness, the team has great values: technique, physical prowess and room for improvement. Our main goal is to help them grow at the best of our abilities".
