U23s, Francesco Modesto: "It has been an incredible season"
The coach's post-match debriefing
In the immediate aftermath of the second leg game against Audace Cerignola, coach Francesco Modesto shared his thoughts on the fixture: "The lads put in a superb performance today. It's been a great season, so thank you to everyone involved. We've all been on the same journey together, just as Atalanta would do. We played many games during the season, giving our all in every match. Today, however, despite playing on difficult ground, we were not rewarded. We were in control of the game, and it's a shame we didn't win. The lads really wanted to progress and continue the journey. I'm sorry they didn't. Many of them have a promising future in higher categories."
“When the match was over, I saw many boys with tears in their eyes,” the Nerazzurri coach continued. “You can see the affection between them, their desire to improve, and the results of their efforts are there to see. This team has talent, and I wish them all a great future in football. They deserve it.”
He then concluded: “Next season, many youngsters will have opportunities. The group will be renewed with players from the Primavera team. Training will resume in July. My only regret is not being able to coach many of these players in the future. They were boys at the beginning of the season, but now they are men."
