The new Piazzale Goisis unveiled: a symbolic gateway between the Gewiss Stadium and the Bergamo Lazzaretto

On the morning of Saturday, April 12, Bergamo's Mayor Elena Carnevali cut the ribbon on the new "Piazzale Goisis": more than a simple redevelopment of what formerly was a parking area, the project represents a significant gesture of restoration to the local community and the city as a whole and it is part of the broader Gewiss Stadium's regeneration plan, strongly supported by the Percassi family.
Framed by a striking architectural context between the Gewiss Stadium and the Lazzaretto, the new Piazzale Goisis now stands as a place of remembrance. Embedded into the stone pavings, brass plaques bear the words spoken by President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella during his 2021 visit to Bergamo to honour the memory of Covid victims, alongside with a passage from "I Promessi Sposi" by Alessandro Manzoni recalling the plague of the 1600s - when the Lazzaretto served as a shelter for the afflicted in the 1630.
A moving and poignant moment, the inauguration ceremony saw the attendance of Corporate General Director Andrea Fabris, together with the Chief Operating Officer Roberto Spagnolo.
