Sassuolo claim the spoils in Reggio Emilia
Musah on target for the Nerazzurri, twice denied by the woodwork
On the 2025/26 Serie A Enilive Matchday 27 Sassuolo edged it at the Mapei Stadium in Reggio Emilia and took all three points, as Musah’s late goal and two efforts off the woodwork weren’t enough to spark a Nerazzurri comeback.
After an early sight of goal for Pinamonti (a tame, central header) the first real chance fell to the Nerazzurri: Zalewski, neatly played through by Pašalić, tried to dink the keeper but sent his chip just wide of the mark. In the 16th minute, Sassuolo were reduced to ten men as Pinamonti was waved a straight red card following a dangerous sliding challenge on Berat Djimsiti. On 23 minutes the hosts broke the deadlock, as Koné bundled the ball home from close range following a corner. The Nerazzurri reacted with a clever through ball from Zalewski into Samardžić, who took one touch too many and lost the chance to pull the trigger. Shortly after, in the 39th minute, Bellanova tested Muric with a downward header that forced the goalkeeper into action.
Atalanta came out with intent after the break, with Zappacosta getting a shot away just a minute into the second half, but Muric turned it behind for a corner. The wingback threatened again in the 55th minute, but this time his effort sailed high over the bar. Sassuolo doubled their lead in the 69th minute, as Thorstvedt rocketed his strike into the top corner. In the 72nd Muric produced a fine save to keep out Krstović’s well-directed header. In the 86th the Nerazzurri came within inches of pulling one back as Samardžić’s close-range touch rattled the post. In the 88th Atalanta pulled one back as Musah rifled Zappacosta’s cross from the right into the top corner to make it 2-1. Well into injurty time, Scalvini came within a whisker of equalising, but Muric pulled off a crucial save to deny the Nerazzurri defender’s header.
