Samardžić becomes Atalanta’s seventh summer signing

The 22-year-old Serbian midfielder born in Germany joins the Nerazzurri from Udinese

Atalanta BC are glad to announce the signing, on loan with an option and an obligation to make the transfer permanent under certain conditions, of footballer Lazar Samardžić from Udinese Calcio. A seasoned connoisseur of Italian football despite his young age having accrued 93 Serie A appearances for the Furlan Club (with whom he scored 13 goals and provided 8 assists), the 22-year-old left-footed Serbian attacking midfielder will thus propose all his flair and eclecticism to the Nerazzurri's service.

Born in Berlin but naturalised Serbian, he climbed up the Hertha BSC Academy's ladder all the way to the Die Alte Dame First Team, with whom he made his Bundesliga debut on May 22 2020, aged 18 years and 2 months, coming on as a substitute in the 4-0 Berlin Derby win against Union Berlin. In his first professional season with the capitol side, he collected 3 First Team appearances and 5 further caps (and 1 goal) with Hertha's B team.

After joining RB Leipzig on September 7 2020, with his stay at Die Roten Bullen resulting in a one-season-only stint, Samardžić landed in Italy in the summer of 2021 upon completing a permanent move to Udinese Calcio, with whom he played 98 games (including his latest fixture, namely the Coppa Italia tie played against Avellino on August 9) scoring 13 goals and providing 10 key passes across all competitions during the course of his three-seasons tenure at the black-and-white Club**.**

He made his Serie A debut on the 12th of September 2021 coming on as a substitute for Deulofeu in the 81st minute of the game against Spezia: 8 minutes after hitting the pitch, Samardžić embellished his first cap in Italy's top flight in the best possible way scoring the match-winning goal that clinched the Furlans' road win.

Despite his extensive stint with Germany's Junior National sides, featuring in almost all Under outfits from the Under-16s to the Under-21s, he switched his allegiance to Serbia on February 2023, thus opting to become a representative of the Balkan team on the grounds of his dual citizenship. He then made his official Senior debut a month later in the EURO 2024 Qualifier 2-0 win over Lithuania. Thus far, Lazar has collected 11 caps with the Оrlovi.

The Percassi and Pagliuca families and the whole Club would like to extend a warm welcome to Lazar and wish him the best of luck in his future personal and team endeavours as a Nerazzurro.
