Retegui wins the Goal of the Month for August!
Crowned by the Nerazzurri fans through the Instagram stories
A clean sweep for Mateo Retegui! After lifting the POTM award for August, the Italian-Argentinian striker bulldozed the polls once again to add another pageant to his cabinet, the laurel for best goal of the month this time, thanks to his opening header against Torino in the Serie A Enilive MD2.
Time to climb up the standings and sift through the "exit polls" from the voting held through Atalanta's official Instagram stories (in between brackets the "approval rate"):

4th place: Lorenzo Riccio, Atalanta 1-2 Cremonese, 2024-2025 Primavera 1 2024-2025 “Trofeo Giacinto Facchetti” MD1
Wooden spoon for Atalanta Primavera's striker Lorenzo Riccio, in contention this month with the first of his five goals scored thus far, namely the one netted in the black-and-blue U19s' seasonal debut at the Carillo Pesenti Pigna stadium in Alzano Lombardo. In the 84th minute, Simonetto homes his cross from the throw-in line straight on the head of our number 8, who smashes the ball in to pull one back for the home side after a great layup.
3rd place: Vanja Vlahović, Atalanta U23s 1-2 Vicenza, 2024-2025 Coppa Italia Serie C Round 2
Bronze medal (but with all sights posed on the second step) for Vanja Vlahović! Coach Modesto's "bomber" makes it to the podium with his temporary equalizer in the Coppa Italia Serie C Round 2 game played against Vicenza in Caravaggio. Despite the visitors taking the lead well into stoppage time, the Serbian striker rained on Vicenza's parade and levelled the tie 60 mere seconds after the Biancorossi broke the deadlock: Panada's pass spirals down on De Nipoti, who nods the ball in for Vlahović, who in return finished the play off with a flying rebound hit to vanquish Conferente.
Runner-up: Marco Brescianini, Lecce 0-4 Atalanta, 2024-2025 Serie A Enilive MD1
Just like the scramble for the POTM of August, history repeats itself for the last two steps of the podium with both our super black-and-blue debutant picking up runner-up and top-of-the-crop honours!
Ladies and gentlemen, behold Marco Brescianini's second goal against Lecce: Via del Mare stadium and 66th minute on the stopwatch, Pašalić finds the right opening and frees up Brescianini with an eye-watering through pass. In the mano-a-mano against Falcone the black-and-blue 44 doesn't miss his date and seals Atalanta's 4-goal haul with his second of the night.
Winner: Mateo Retegui, Torino 2-1 Atalanta, 2024-2025 Serie A Enilive MD2
Last but not the least, we close our climb back up to the GOTM summit with none other than the winner himself: namely, Mateo Retegui's cabezazo that opened the scoring in the Serie A MD2 outing against Turin! After seeing himself denied (or better yet postponed) on 20 minutes thanks to a last-ditch save by the opposing keeper, Mateo's efforts eventually found their vindication a few twists of the dial later, when Atalanta's number 32 swooped on Zappacosta's pin-point cross from the right flank to cleave the ball into the top corner in pure throroughbred Nueve style.
