Retegui debuted in the test-match against St. Pauli
Atalanta's new signing played the whole second half
While the Millerntor-Stadion friendly against St. Pauli saw the home side get out on top, Retegui made his Nerazzurri debut playing the whole second half of the game.
Atalanta threatened first on 3 minutes when Lookman, ignited by a great pass from Kolašinac, finished just wide. Ademola struck again in the 7th when he saw his chance deflected off for a corner. Then it was El Bilal who had his go 17 minutes in when he tried to capitalize on a failed backpass from the opposing defence but he saw his chance negated once again by Vasilj. In the 21st the home defence managed to deflect De Ketelaere's attempt from a budding angle on the outer netting thanks to a saving undercut. The Nerazzurri's pressing proved itself conducive once again 8 minutes later when Pašalić loosened a powerful shot, eventually punched out by Vasilj.
Coming off the bench, Retegui made his debut as a half-time substitution. After Irvine nodded the ball high over the bar, it was Eggestein who gave St. Pauli the lead on 58 minutes with a headed finish following a set-piece situation. It was the Retegui who led the Nerazzurri's reaction, first when he saw his ranged shot ending up slightly wide and then in the 65th when he unleashed Éderson, who rolled the ball across for Lookman, with Vasilj muting the forward's attempt with ease. After doubling it on 68 minutes, St. Pauli made it 3-0 in the 71st with Boukhalfa. 83 minutes on the stopwatch and another chance for Retegui: after gathering Cassa's pass, Atalanta's number 32 saw his attempt ricochet off an opponent after a defensive clearance before the opposing keeper managed to smother the rebound. As the Hamburg friendly culminated in a 3-0 win for St. Pauli, it's now time for the team to fend all off and shift the focus towards the UEFA Super Cup against Real Madrid.
