Primavera: Atalanta 1-0 Genoa
Tornaghi's early goal for the win
By defeating Genoa 1-0 at the Carillo Pesenti Pigna stadium in Alzano Lombardo on MD28 of the 2023-2024 Primavera 1 TIM league, coach Giovanni Bosi's lads have tightened their grip on the third place in the standings now on 52 points.
Straight after Pardel's remarkable save on Ekhator merely a wink away from the starting whistle, the Nerazzurri broke the deadlock on 6 minutes with Tornaghi, pictured in the cover, who turned Manzoni's corner kick home to find his seasonal scoring debut. Briefly afterwards, it was Vavassori who threatened the opposing defence twice within minutes: first with a boisterous ranged drive 18 minutes in followed by an angled shot on the 21st. 23 minutes on the clock and it was Manzoni who cut inside and shot, only to have his solo effort saved by Calvani. At halftime's threshold, Atalanta had yet another twin chance with Vavassori and Riccio.
After a lukewarm start, Genoa had the first highlight of the second half on 64 minutes with Scaravilli's feeble ranged shot. Atalanta's retaliation came just two minutes later when Manzoni's header got tipped out for a corner by Calvani. In the 73rd minute, Omar's shot from the edge of the box flew wide to the side. Closing the match on a personal high, Pardel flew with a last-ditch save to negate Thorsteinsson's attempt at equalising, thus sewing up Atalanta's 4th back-to-back win and pitching the Nerazzurri's claim on the 3rd place.
