Pocket aces from Samardžić and Zappacosta to beat Monza 2-0

Fourth league victory in a row

Thanks to two second-half stunners by Samardžić and Zappacosta, Atalanta walk off the Gewiss Stadium with the full three points after vanquishing Monza and claiming their fourth consecutive 2024-2025 Serie A Enilive victory.

It was a hard-fought first half, with all Nerazzurri pressure and possession and the visitors allowing very little and closing all spaces. Despite Gasperini's men in full attack mode, only a few were clear-cut chances. The final minutes of the first period saw Lookman fail to meet De Ketelaere's cross and Carnesecchi beat Bianco's long-range effort away.

After one half-time substitution each to shake the game up, the second half opened up with a great Carnesecchi stunt to keep Pedro Pereira's ranged effort at bay. On 65 minutes De Ketelaere went solo on the left flank, with Turati eventually deflecting the Belgian's attempt away. The deadlock was finally broken in the 70th minute when Zaniolo controlled the ball and pulled it back for Retegui, who laid it off for Samardžić, who beat Turati with a left-foot effort to give Atalanta the lead. On 74 minutes Cuadrado was through on goal but Kyriakopoulos blocked his attempt with a desperate clearance. Three minutes later, Kolašinac's shot from the edge of the Monza box was parried by Turati. In the 84th minute, it was Carnesecchi who had to deflect Kyriakopoulos' tricky free-kick for a corner and minutes later, Samardžić snuck his way into the box before unleashing a fail-safe finish, eventually denied by a goal-line clearance from Pablo Marì. Our second of the nigth came on 88 minutes with another banger, courtesy of Zappacosta this time, who cut into the box before cleaving the ball into the far corner after a slight brush on the inner post. The last chance of the game came through Kossonou well into injury time, with Turati managing to deny what would have been the Ivorian defender's first Nerazzurro goal. With the final whistle chimimg through the Gewiss Stadium, Atalanta ran out 2-0 winners!
