Nicola Beati: "We lacked a clinical edge"
The Nerazzurri coach's post-match comments
Following the match against Torres, head coach Nicola Beati commented: “We expected a tough game because that's always the case when you play away to Torres. I want to congratulate their team and coach because they always manage to get the best out of themselves. We had prepared for an intense, aggressive match with plenty of individual battles. It's a shame because, after a positive opening 15 minutes, we conceded from their first chance, following a set piece. That setback weighed on us a little and the game changed from there: they dropped deeper and looked to hit us on the counterattack. In the second half, we created a bit more and came very close to getting back into the game. I wasn't unhappy with our performance, but we lacked a clinical edge.”
The coach then reflected on how the game developed: “During the match, we changed the way we played according to the scoreline. Once Torres took the lead, they dropped deeper and adopted a less aggressive approach. It was a natural development dictated by the score, and we still managed to produce some good attacking moves, although it wasn't enough.”
Finally, Beati discussed his selection options and the contribution of the substitutes: “I'm fortunate to coach a group of players who are raising the overall standard of the squad. That makes choosing the starting eleven far from easy. Sometimes a player can have an off day, which is why substitutions are so important. I'm very pleased with the players who came on today.”
