Atalanta storm to 3-0 win at the Maradona

Miranchuk, Scamacca and Koopmeiners on target

Goals from Miranchuk, Scamacca and Koopmeiners saw Atalanta defeat reigning champions Napoli 3-0 at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium on matchday 30 of the 2023-2024 Serie A TIM.

The Nerazzurri, who donned the red kit today, started brightly and threatened two minutes into the game when Scamacca won possession and Pašalić's slide-rule pass released Miranchuk, who hit the post with his right foot. After Carnesecchi made a fine save from Osimhen's 18th-minute header, Miranchuk broke the deadlock in the 26th minute, latching onto Pašalić's effort to put Atalanta ahead. Carnesecchi came rushing out to block Osimhen in the 29th minute before Scalvini denied Politano an equaliser. In the 45th minute, Scamacca put the Nerazzurri 2-0 up when he controlled the ball on the edge of the box, combined with Miranchuk and then beat Meret with a clinical right-footer.

Napoli tried to fight back in the second half, with Zielinski seeing his 55th-minute volley hit the post and Carnesecchi tipping Osimhen's follow-up from Lobotka onto the upright. Lookman stung Meret’s gloves on 78 minutes while Carnesecchi had to put his foot out to deny Osimhen at the other end. After the Atalanta goalkeeper was forced to thwart the Nigerian striker on 82 minutes, the Nerazzurri put the game to bed in the 88th minute when Ruggeri found Koopmeiners, who drilled into the far bottom corner to make it 3-0.

No breaks for the team now, as the Nerazzurri will return to work on Sunday morning with a behind-closed-door training session at the Centro Bortolotti in Zingonia to prepare for the first leg of the Coppa Italia semi-final against Fiorentina.
