Monza v Atalanta: pre-match notes
Stories and trivia ahead of our trip to Brianza
One last stop before the international break. After kicking off November with back-to-back home fixtures in the league and in Europe, Atalanta are back on the road for one final outing before the international window. On Sunday 8 November, the Nerazzurri will visit Monza for Matchday 11 of the 2026/27 Serie A Enilive season, with kick-off set for 15:00 CET.
The international break will have to wait another 90 minutes, though: there is still one last trip to Brianza to come. Ahead of kick-off, let's delve into the stories, stats and head-to-head record behind Monza v Atalanta.
When away fortunes take a turn
From a historically tricky hunting ground to a happy hunting ground: Atalanta's trips to Monza have taken on a very different complexion in recent years. Before the Biancorossi made their Serie A debut, the Nerazzurri had won just one of their previous six league visits to Brianza, alongside two draws and three defeats.
Monza's arrival in the top flight, however, brought a complete reversal of fortunes: three visits and three Atalanta victories. The first came on 5 September 2022, a 2-0 win courtesy of Højlund and a Marlon own goal. On 21 April 2024, goals from De Ketelaere and El Bilal Touré secured a 2-1 victory, before the Nerazzurri recorded their biggest win of the three on 4 May 2025: a 4-0 triumph featuring a De Ketelaere brace and goals from Lookman and Brescianini.
Those three wins have also tipped the overall away record against Monza back in Atalanta's favour: across the 17 meetings in question, the Nerazzurri now have six wins, six draws and five defeats to their name, with 23 goals scored and 19 conceded.
Atalanta dominate at the U-Power Stadium, beating Monza 4–0. De Ketelaere bagged a brace, with Lookman and Brescianini also getting on the scoresheet.
One fixture, four different stages
Three divisions, four competitions and a distinction spanning decades of Atalanta history. Monza are one of just ten clubs the Nerazzurri have faced in Serie A, Serie B and Serie C. The list also includes Alessandria, Empoli, Mantova, Modena, Padova, Parma, Piacenza, Triestina and Vicenza, with Parma the only other side, alongside Monza, competing in the 2026/27 Serie A season.
What makes the history of this fixture even more unusual is the order in which the competitions entered the picture: from Serie B to the Coppa Italia, then Serie C and, finally, Serie A. The first meetings date back to the 1958/59 second-division campaign, while the 1970/71 season brought the first Coppa Italia encounters, both ending 1-1.
The next chapter came in 1981/82, Atalanta's only season in Italy's third tier. Drawn in the same Serie C1 group, the Nerazzurri and Biancorossi shared the points on both occasions, with two goalless draws. They also finished the campaign side by side at the top of the table, Atalanta in first place and Monza in second, both earning promotion to Serie B.
That left just Serie A to complete the set. The final piece fell into place more than 40 years later, in 2022/23, when Monza made their top-flight debut. Atalanta won both meetings, 2-0 away and 5-2 in Bergamo, completing a journey through the divisions that had begun more than six decades earlier. And with Serie A added to the list, Monza joined an even more exclusive group: alongside Empoli, Mantova and Parma, they are one of only four clubs Atalanta have faced across all three national divisions and in the Coppa Italia.

CDK: One brace, three records
While multiple-goal performances have been no rarity in the meetings played in Bergamo, with braces from Scala, Magrin, Caccia and Scamacca, in chronological order, plus a Koopmeiners hat-trick, it was a different story on Monza soil. No Atalanta player had ever managed to score more than once away to the Biancorossi, a distinction that had stood for over half a century.
Charles De Ketelaere was the man to break that pattern. Having already found the net in the 2-1 victory of April 2024, the Belgian went one better with a brace in the 4-0 win of May 2025. In doing so, he claimed three records at once: he became the only Atalanta player to score on two separate visits to Monza, the only one to net a brace there and, with three goals to his name, the Nerazzurri's all-time leading scorer away to the Bagaj.
