Lookman's goal didn't suffice as Club Brugge reached the RO16

Atalanta's UEFA Champions League journey comes to its halt in the knockout phase play-offs as Club Brugge progress at the Gewiss Stadium and qualifies for the round of 16.

Starting off from the 1-2 of the first leg, things got off to a rather thorny start as the visitors took the lead just three minutes in with Talibi, Atalanta returned fire with Djimsiti and Retegui going close before the black-and-blue no.32 eventually found the back of the net but saw his goal disallowed due to an offside in the build-up. After Mignolet came out to block Éderson's run on 19 minutes, the away side doubled their lead in the 27th with another goal from Talibi. With Pašalić, Cuadrado and Zappacosta's aerial attempts all coming up short, the Nerazzurri almost pulled one back three times in the 2nd minute of added time: after Zappacosta's effort got deflected off the post, Mignolet denied Pašalić and Mechele cleared Cuadrado's angled effort off the line. In the following counter, the Belgian side added a third with Jutglà.

Seconds after making his comeback on the pitch, Lookman found the winning deflection on Zappacosta's cross from the left flank and pulled one back for the Nerazzurri. Atalanta built up the pressure with Éderson being denied by the post on the 56th before being awarded a penalty after on-field review from VAR for a previous foul in the box on Cuadrado. Lookman's attempt from the spot was then saved by Mignolet, who repeated himself first on Retegui in the 64th, then in the 70th to keep Lookman's ranged effort out and once again in the 73rd to stop Kolašinac's point-blank turn. The game then concluded with the visitors winning 3-1 against a 10-man Atalanta following the straight red card shown to Toloi.
