Lookman is the POTM for September!

Who else but Ademola Lookman? After going on sabbatical in August, the reigning Player of the Season bounced back stronger than before on the stage of the "Black-and-blue Oscars", making his welcome comeback in a familiar setting for the Nigerian winger.

After uttering a “challenge accepted” with his posh cockney accent, Mola took up the challenge set by the outgoing champion Retegui and won the second set of the season after wooing the nerazzurri fans, who have swarmed the Atalanta official app to cast their votes into the ballot as tradition dictates come rain or shine, one dribble, one goal and one assist after the other... Starting off from his dazzling "back to business" in the black-and-blue comeback against Fiorentina: where not only did he dish out the assist to make it 1-1 and score the decider, but he also swept the Serie A's MVP award for good measure. Back on the scoresheet, this time flaunting an ice-cold finish from the spot, he plugged the gap in the home setback against Como. In summation, two goals and 1 assist to tip this month's needle in his favour.

From one Serie A Man Of The Match to another, the silver medal bears the signature of Lazar Samardžić, whose upsurge on the second step of the POTM rankings went hand in hand with the ever-growing centrality of the Serbian when it came to spinning the black-and-blue threads all across the offensive third. After dipping his toes, our young virtuoso finally picked up the revs (and playing minutes) all the way up to the redline, which culminated in his masterstroke in the Dall'Ara night; the left-footed putt that quelled the hosts' resistance, forcing the Felsineans to relinquish the two points.

Third place for the outgoing winner Retegui: although Mateo left his mark and did it "his way" also in September - and we're not just "hinting" so to speak, mind you, at his temporary equalizer against Fiorentina- by outpouring all his selflessness and grit come match in and match out; it wasn't enoth to stifle Lookman and Samardžić's shoo-ins, a testament of how tough the POTM audience might be (and by the looks of the displays put up by the two Atalanta MVPs throughout the opening fortnight of October 2024, you might be in for a hard call next month... )!
