6 new designs celebrating our no.42's centennial
Last Saturday's game at the Tardini stadium will forever hold a special place in the heart of Giorgio Scalvini: in the case of our number 42, the the term "victory" takes on a particular significance and a brand-new meaning that go beyond face value.
The Parma game didn't "just" mark the 2003s-born defender's 100th Atalanta appearance across all competitions, a nonetheless pivotal milestone for any player who, upon rising through the Academy ranks, has reached First Team status, and to an extend even more so for Giorgio, who not only has worn the black-and-blue shirt and donned its colours as if they were a second skin for 10 years and counting but especially given how, due to him being the latest embodiement of such journey, he has now set himself out as a role model for all the Zingonia youngsters.
If that alone wasn't enough, the underlying personal and emotional undertone behind this milestone deserves an honourable mention: by replacing Toloi on 82 minutes, the Atalanta centreback came full circle by making his comeback on the pitch 172 days after that ill-fated June 2, when he last trod the green rectangle. In summation, another "mise en abyme", another chapter in Giorgio's "hero's journey".
Here's Scalvini's Nerazzurro journey in six wallpapers: from his trifecta of debuts (in order of apparition, against Venezia in the Coppaa Italia RO16; against Udinese in the Serie A and against RB Leipzig in the Europa League) in his his first campaign, his first-ever goal (against Hellas in the league's MD33)and his maiden European goal to open the scoring in our 2-1 win at the José Alvalade to the design celebrating "King", as the black-and-blue fandom affectionately refers to him, Giorgio's 100th game!
