Coppa Italia Primavera: Cagliari 0-1 Atalanta
The Nerazzurri reach the quarter-finals by defeating the reigning champions
In the Round of 16 of the Coppa Italia Primavera, Atalanta coach Bosi’s side overcame Cagliari away from home to book their place in the quarter-finals of the competition. At the CRAI Sport Center, Ramaj and his teammates claimed a 1-0 victory over the Rossoblù.
It was an excellent start to the match for coach Bosi’s Nerazzurri, who took the lead after just 3 minutes thanks to a winning strike from Baldo that caught Kehayov off guard at his near post. In the opening 10 minutes, Cagliari tried to respond to Atalanta’s play, first with a weak effort from Mendy inside the penalty area and shortly after with a right-footed shot from Hamdaoua that went wide, brushing the outside of the net. Around the 20th minute, Atalanta came close to doubling their lead on the counter-attack, but Artesani’s left-footed strike from outside the box was denied by the crossbar. At the end of the first half, Anelli preserved the scoreline by saving a central penalty kick from Sulev with his feet. At the CRAI Sport Center, the first half ended with Atalanta leading 1–0.
In the second half, it was the home side who created the first chances: Mendy failed to hit the target with a header, and a few minutes later Malfitano, also with a header, came close to equalising but his attempt was inaccurate and went wide. In the 66th minute, coach Bosi’s team pushed forward in search of a second goal, but the Sardinian goalkeeper denied the efforts of Baldo and Aliprandi. Deep into stoppage time, Anelli once again came to Atalanta’s rescue, making a crucial save by deflecting Costa’s shot onto the post. In Assemini, Ramaj and his teammates advanced to the quarter-finals with a 1–0 win over Cagliari.
On Monday 12 January, for MD19 of the Primavera 1 Championship “Trofeo Giacinto Facchetti,” coach Bosi’s Atalanta will face Lecce at Campo No. 9 of the Centro Bortolotti. Kick-off is scheduled for 11 CET.
