Atalanta U23s Back to Winning Ways: 2-0 at Gubbio
Late surge for the Nerazzurri with Diao and Bonanomi
Atalanta U23s claimed a valuable 2-0 away win over Gubbio on Matchday 10 of Serie C Sky Wifi Group B. After an evenly contested first half with few clear-cut chances, the Nerazzurri broke the deadlock late on through Diao before Bonanomi sealed the victory in stoppage time.
Chances were few and far between in the first half at the Pietro Barbetti Stadium, where Atalanta U23s first threatened in the 11th minute, as Misitano's effort from a tight angle on the right went narrowly wide. In the 37th minute, the Nerazzurri fashioned a series of attempts inside the Gubbio box following a corner, but the home defence blocked every effort. The final chance of the half came in the 41st minute, when Steffanoni picked out Diao inside the box with a precise through ball, but the Spanish forward was unable to make the most of the opportunity.
Both sides stepped up the intensity after the break in search of the opening goal. Atalanta U23s went close through Misitano in the 50th minute and Ghislandi in the 68th, but the Gubbio defence stood firm on both occasions. The breakthrough finally came in the 83rd minute, when Diao used his pace to race through on goal, round the goalkeeper and slot the ball into the net. Gubbio nearly equalised in the 90th minute through Barani, whose effort was inadvertently blocked on the line by a teammate. Just a minute later, Bonanomi put the result beyond doubt: played through by Manzoni, he too rounded the goalkeeper before slotting home to seal the 2-0 win.
