Atalanta For Special compete at the Impegno Cup in Varese
The club's new third-level team in action
It was another busy weekend for Atalanta For Special, with the club involved in three tournaments across Saturday and Sunday. On Sunday, June 7, the Nerazzurri's third-level squad, coached by Perry Brignoli, Gianmario Lesmo and Walter Probo, took part in the second edition of the Impegno Cup, hosted by Varesina at the Venegono Superiore Stadium and featuring some of the leading teams in Italian Paralympic football.
Fielding the newly assembled side set to compete in the 2026/27 season, Atalanta produced a series of encouraging performances, impressing with their quality of play, ball retention and intensity, while earning warm applause from the spectators.
Their opening fixture against Alcione saw the Nerazzurri dominate proceedings and create several scoring opportunities, but the match ended in a goalless draw. A similar story unfolded against Juventus: Atalanta started brightly and controlled much of the game, only for the Bianconeri to take the lead through a fortunate effort and edge a 1-0 victory. The matches against Varesina and Valle Olona followed a familiar pattern, with Atalanta producing plenty of chances but unable to find the finishing touch.
The breakthrough came in the final game of the day, as the Nerazzurri defeated Varesina 2-0 thanks to goals from Marco Capitanio and Ulisse Pezzotti, rounding off the tournament with a deserved win.
At the end of the day, Atalanta's record stood at one win, three draws and one defeat. Despite the demanding conditions and high temperatures, the Nerazzurri left a strong impression, showcasing the progress of the group and the clear identity of this new team. Credit also goes to Varesina for the excellent organisation of the tournament and the warm hospitality shown to all the participating sides, reflecting the sporting and inclusive values at the heart of the event.
