Atalanta BC against bullying and cyber-bullying

Featuring Atalanta's Under-14s female and male sides

In celebration of the International Day against Bullying and Cyberbullying, observed every year on February 7, and as part of the ongoing social awareness training offered to the young athletes of the Atalanta Youth Sector, several mentoring get-togethers were held to foster constructive dialogues and spark the creation of common ground and shared experiences. This year's project saw the joint involvement of the Nerazzurri Male and Female Under-14s sides.

More specifically, a prominent role was held by the screening of the 5th episode from the "Outraged" series, in which prominent figures opened up about their own personal background as victims of online abuse and the lasting impact it had on both their sporting careers and personal lives.

Participants then weighed up on the cue signs and telltale traits of this type of abuse, ranging from the most severe, such as death threats, to its connection with various forms of discrimination, including racism, homophobia, and cyberbullying whilst also sharing personal insights and views.

The young attendees then built a moot situation based on real-life social media comments and assumed different roles - victim, perpetrator of comments, friends of the victim, moderators, and social media users- to gain an ever better frame of mind and viewpoint on the phenomenon.

The workshop then delved into further topics such as emotional aspects, actions and prevention strategies. The heightened awareness regarding the importance of taking a moment to pause and reflect before acting, coupled with the introduction of effective strategies, proved to be an essential step in guiding our athletes toward responsible conduct in their everyday lives.

As is well recognized, cyberbullying remains a persistent issue among adolescents, and these reflective sessions are specifically designed to tackle the issue at its root while prioritizing the overall well-being of our youth.
