A noble fair play gesture by Atalanta For Special

Senior team withdraw from DCPS third-tier championship

Atalanta For Special's Senior side, clearly leading its grouping with 7 wins out of 7 matches, 42 goals scored and 6 conceded, has “self-excluded” from the Lombardy DCPS third-level championship round A, thus also forfeiting the regional and national finals.

“When we realized that we were evidently stronger than the other 10 teams included in our group, something that the test matches carried out last October hadn’t highlighted with such clarity, we immediately thought that something needed to be done,” said Gianmario Lesmo, Atalanta For Special’s coach. And it was right for us to withdraw from the standings and therefore from the national finals in which we already took part in June 2024: for this year, we are happy another team will experience the emotions that we felt last season.”

A decision that was taken collectively and, of course, shared with the Club: “Managers, players and parents, all agreed, without any hesitation - concluded Lesmo-. It was not easy to take this step, but it is certainly much more related with the values of the Paralympic and Experimental Football Department (DCPS) in which we reflect ourselves because sport is not just about winning or losing, but also, and perhaps above all, sharing, respect and opportunity.”

An important fair play moment, just worthy of applause.
