Under 23s: Lumezzane 1-2 Atalanta

Matchday 11 of the 2023/24 Serie C NOW league culminated in Atalanta U23s' 1-2 win over Lumezzane at the "Tullio Saleri" stadium. Tonight's win is Atalanta's third consecutive win and the Nerazzurri's second back-to-back victory away from home. Moreover, as happened on Tuesday against Novara, coach Modesto's lads turned the match around after trailing by one goal at the end of the first half.

After a great start from the Nerazzurri, with a great chance from Di Serio who headed in Roaldsøy's cross from the right flank, Lumezzane retorted on 28 minutes as Cannavò's powerful shot after cutting inside from the right wing tested Vismara. Atalanta were back on the offensive 34 minutes into the game with Capone unleashing Di Serio on a counter: after making his way to the box, Atalanta's striker loosened a shot that ended up off target. In the 37th minute, the host took the lead with Cannavò who, after gathering a pass in the heart of the box, turned around and slammed the ball into the back of the net.

Following the same blue-print of Tuesday's match against Novara, Atalanta saved their best half for the second half: on 46 minutes Di Serio levelled the match by tapping in the rebound from Lumezzane's keeper on Mallamo's shot. Just a handful of minutes later, on the 52nd to be exact, the Nerazzurri turned the match around with Del Lungo: the black-and-blue defender headed in a cross from the left flank and found his very first goal of the season. Minute 54 was marked by a rather dubious accident: although Ceresoli got tripped in Lumezzane's box, the referee waved play on. On 69 minutes Vismara performed a breathtaking save on Ilari's point-blank header. Despite the stifling forcing performed by the hosting side throughout the closing 15 minutes of the match, the opponents' strategy didn't suffice to threaten Atalanta's lead. Atalanta Under-23s emerged victorious from the Tullio Saleri match.
