The three points go to Inter at the Meazza
Setback for Atalanta on Matchweek 3
Matchday 3 of the 2024-2025 Serie A Enilive saw hosting side Inter walk off the Giuseppe Meazza stadium in Milan with the full three points in hand after a 4-0 win.
The hosts got off to a strong start, taking the lead as early as 3 minutes into the game: in the follow-up of Thuram's attempt, the ball took an untoward deflection off Djimsiti and wrongfooted Carnesecchi to give Inter the lead. While Carnesecchi parried Cahlanoglu's powerful free-kick in the 8th, the home side doubled on 10 minutes through Barella, who volleyed the ball into the top corner. Zappacosta led Atalanta's breakout forcing Sommer's last-ditch save on 15 minutes with Retegui then missing the target on a tricky tap-in. Retegui struck again in the 24th, finishing slightly high after finding the right opening. Inter threatened once again on 27 minutes with Thuram, whose effort smacked the bar after suffering a key rebound. Samardžić had a great chance on the brink of halftime with his left-footed drive hissing inches wide off the post.
The second half opened up with Mkhitaryan finishing wide before Inter scored the third of the night on 47 minutes with Thuram, who found the winning touch from close range. On 51 minutes, Lautaro Martinez volleyed the ball out. In the 56th minute, Thuram bagged his second of the night to extend the hosts' lead with the winning paw in the heart of the box following a corner-kick situation. 70 minutes on the stopwatch saw Retegui fling a sharp cross in, with the ball rolling across the whole box without finding the winning deflection. As the Meazza game wound down with a 4-0 win for the hosts, the Serie A will now take a week off due to the first international break of the season.
