Stars and Stripes in the Middle: Yunus Musah Joins Atalanta
Versatile U.S. Midfielder Secured from Milan
Atalanta BC are pleased to announce the acquisition, on a temporary basis until June 30 2026 with an option for a permanent transfer, of the sporting rights of Yunus Musah from AC Milan. He already boasts over 150 appearances in Serie A and La Liga, and has experience in both the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Europa League. The eclectic 22-year-old midfielder has chosen the number 6 shirt.
At only 22, his track record with the U.S. National team comprises impressive stats and feats: since debuting on 12 November 2020 in a friendly against Wales, he has earned 47 caps (with 1 goals and 3 assists), including four starts in the 2022 FIFA World Cup, where he was one of the tournament's breakthrough stars - so much so he was awarded the U.S. Soccer Young Player of the Year. He also won the CONCACAF Nations League in 2021, 2023 and 2024.
Born on November 29 2002 in New York to Ghanian parents, Musah moved as a child to Castelfranco Veneto, immediately intertwining his life with Italy. He took his first footballing steps at Giorgione's Youth sector, before joining Arsenal's Academy in 2012 following his parents' relocation to London.
In 2019 he completed his move to Valencia, debuting for the Che B-side just before turning 17. From the 2020/21 season, he became a first-team regular, ending his debut Liga campaign with 32 appearances and 1 goal. Following his three-season stint in Valencia’s first team, with whom he made 108 total appearances (94 in La Liga,) contributing 5 goals and 3 assists, he transferred to Milan in the summer 2023, making his Serie A debut on August 26 in the win over Torino. In his two campaigns in Rossoneri, he played 60 matches in the Italian flagship division, also racking up 12 UEFA Champions League caps, 4 Europa League appearances, 4 Coppa Italia features and 2 in the Italian Supercup- winning the latter in 2025, contributing a key assist in the semi-final versus Juventus. His overall tally at Milan totals 82 appearances and 5 assists.
Eligible for both England and the U.S., Musah represented England at youth level (U15s to U18s) before committing to the United States Men’s National Team.
