Scamacca on target against Cagliari, but the three points go to the Sardinians

On Matchday 4 of the 2026/27 Serie A Enilive season, Cagliari claimed a 2-1 win at the New Balance Arena in Bergamo. Scamacca was on target for the Nerazzurri.

The Nerazzurri had the first chance of the game in the 5th minute through Scamacca, whose effort was palmed away by Caprile. The Atalanta striker threatened again two minutes later, heading Rowe’s cross just wide. Cagliari responded on the quarter-hour mark through Romano, whose effort was brilliantly tipped away from the bottom corner by Carnesecchi. The visitors took the lead in the 19th minute through Mendy, whose left-footed effort found the net via the crossbar. In the 26th minute Carnesecchi was well alert and parried Maldini. On 31 minutes, Scamacca burst into the box with a feint to leave his marker behind before letting fly, but his effort sailed over the crossbar. After a quick combination was cut out by Deiola, Kessie tried his luck from the edge of the box in the 35th minute, sending his effort over Caprile’s crossbar. Kolašinac’s volley two minutes after the resulting set-piece situation met the same fate, flying over the bar. The Nerazzurri’s pressure paid off with the equaliser in the 41st minute. De Ketelaere drove through the middle and, after a challenge from a defender, the ball fell to Scamacca, who made no mistake, firing an unstoppable diagonal strike past Caprile to make it 1-1.

The second half opened with an effort from Samardžić, but Rowe was unable to get the decisive touch despite sliding in. The English forward threatened again in the 49th minute with a left-footed diagonal strike that went wide. Cagliari regained the lead in the 61st minute through Maldini, who converted from the penalty spot. Atalanta pushed forward in search of an equaliser, while the visitors tested Carnesecchi again through Obert, whose diagonal effort was turned behind for a corner. In the 76th minute, a neat combination in tight space released Samardžić through on Caprile, but the Nerazzurri No. 10’s touch rolled just wide of the post. Atalanta went close to an equaliser in the 83rd minute, when Kessie’s run into the box was thwarted by Caprile rushing off his line. The Ivorian threatened again in the 85th minute, turning well before firing wide. In between, Krstović also tested the Cagliari goalkeeper with a header, but Caprile made the save. Pašalić also came on for the final push, marking his 350th appearance for Atalanta in all competitions. Bellanova had the last attempt, but his effort sailed over the bar. It finished 2-1 to Cagliari at the New Balance Arena.
